Gloria Theater was at its height in the thirties. The theater gave Arubans their first experience of the ‘talkies’, when it premiered the 1930 Best Picture winner ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’.

Talkies are films incorporated with synchronized audible dialogue rather than readable text plates. The terms were widely used in the late 1920s and early 1930s to distinguish sound films from silent films.
